Air Pollution and Your Health
Air pollution, particularly fine particulate matter (PM2.5), can deeply impact your health. These tiny particles enter your lungs, some reaching your bloodstream, causing conditions like asthma, heart attacks, and reduced lung function. Protecting yourself and staying informed can help reduce these risks.

What is the Air Quality Index?
The Grant County AIRWISE sensors monitor outdoor air quality, reporting PM1, PM2.5, and PM10 levels. Using the EPA’s Air Quality Index (AQI), a six-color-coded system, the PurpleAir map helps communicate pollution risks. Higher AQI values indicate greater health concerns, with levels above 100 becoming unhealthy.

How to Protect Your Health from Air Pollution
Protecting your health from air pollution starts with knowing the air quality around you. The Grant County AIR-WISE network monitors particulate matter in real-time, using EPA’s Air Quality Index to make pollution levels easy to understand. Check the AQI and follow EPA guidelines to reduce exposure and stay safe outdoors.
